Stepping
into the Role by Steven Utley
One day, feline scientists
discovered in some sandstone cliffs
my arm and leg, my jaw and hand --
a fossil of forgotten man.
And while the eggheads sniffed my bones
and wondered why I did not last,
I appeared on movie screens,
a berserk monster from the past. "Stepping into the Role" copyright © Steven Utley 2004
